Gerasimos Leonidas
I built roots in Andros not through origin, but through the senses, the paths I walked, and the gratitude for all that I feel and reflect upon when I am here.
My parents’ foresight gave us a home in Strapouries, allowed my children to grow up considering Andros their second home, and gave me the opportunity to experience the island through its trails — marked and unmarked alike.
Having lived in England for more than thirty years, the landscape and environment of Andros feel deeply precious to me, in an emotional and almost insatiable way. My partner and I spend as much time on the island as we can, preferably outside the busy season.
Offering my time and work for the trails is only a small gesture of recognition for all that I receive in return. Beyond caring for the environment and supporting sustainable development, it is also a way for the island’s memory to endure and for bonds to be formed with fellow travellers along the way.
