The maintenance hike on Saturday, February 1st, from Mesa Vouni to Ormos Korthiou, following part of Route 5, was an unforgettable experience! The group of 14 hikers came from all parts of Andros, including Korthi, Ormos Korthiou, Zaganiaris, Gavrio, Fellos, Chora, Mainites, and even Athens. We started from Mesa Vouni, enjoying the beautiful weather that made nature look its best. The bright sun, cool breeze, and clear blue sky accompanied our steps along the beautiful path through the lush landscape.

The hike began with a slight detour through the village Mesa Vouni, where the volunteer Route Angel, Antonis Spertos, gave us a tour of his village and shared stories from his childhood. We also met a few locals who warmly welcomed us.

After Vouni, we passed through the stunning nature of Gerakonas mountain with breathtaking views of both the northern and southern seas, crossing chapels, cottages, freshly plowed fields, vineyards, well-maintained stone walls and terraces and springs of fresh water, while getting our shoes muddy as we crossed little streams.

This route is very enjoyable for hikers as it moves in and out of settlements separated by agricultural landscapes, all while offering uninterrupted views of Ormos Korthiou. Along the way, we passed through the picturesque villages of Giannisaio, Lardia, and Rogo, where the beautiful houses, narrow streets, and, of course, the unique view of Korthi truly enchanted us. Our stops were filled with beautiful sights and faces full of smiles and positive energy. Locals came out to their courtyards to greet us and wish us a safe hike.

As we approached Korthi, the view towards the sea became even more spectacular, offering us a unique setting. The route still impressed us a few meters before the end at Ormos Korthiou with the arched stone bridge of Galagas and the river. Completing our hike, we felt a wonderful sense of satisfaction and rejuvenation. A route full of beauty, good company, and unique moments in nature that we will surely remember for a long time!

The route is in excellent condition, but we perfected it by trimming vegetation and collecting trash.

➤ Thank you to everyone who joined us, especially Antonis Spertos! See you at the next maintenance hike!
