Petition on the New Renewable Energy Spatial Plan and the Exclusion of Andros from Cyclades Protection
For the past seventeen years, the Andros Research Center has been studying, safeguarding, and promoting the agricultural landscape of Andros, its trail network, dry-stone walls, springs, natural environment, and cultural heritage—elements that together form the island’s unique identity.
We wish to express our deep concern regarding a spatial planning framework that treats Andros as a host area for industrial-scale renewable energy installations, without adequately taking into account its exceptional natural and cultural value.
This rich heritage, shaped over centuries, is at risk of degradation or even irreversible loss.
We support the resolution adopted by the Municipality of Andros and invite you to support it as well.
Draft Resolution Proposal of the Andros Municipal Council for the Designation of the Island of Andros as Subject to a Special Spatial Planning Protection Regime and for its Exclusion from Renewable Energy Acceleration Areas (REAAs), Priority Areas, and General Zones for the Siting and Development of New Renewable Energy Source (RES) Projects
